Resize Image
Resize images to exact dimensions or by percentage.
This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your data never leaves your device — nothing is uploaded to our servers.
About Resize Image
Resizing is where most quality is quietly lost, because scaling down and scaling up are entirely different operations. Reducing dimensions averages pixels together and generally looks fine; enlarging invents pixels that were never captured, and no amount of filtering recovers detail that isn't there. This tool resizes locally in your browser, keeps aspect ratio locked by default, and shows the resulting dimensions before you commit.
When to use Resize Image
Exact dimensions for a profile or ID photo
Application forms often demand a precise pixel size such as 600×600. Enter the numbers rather than cropping by eye.
Preparing images for the web
Serving a 4000px photo into a 800px slot wastes bandwidth on every page load. Resize to the size it will actually be displayed at.
Fitting platform requirements
Social and marketplace listings reject images outside their expected ratios. Resize to the documented dimensions before uploading.
Limitations worth knowing
- Enlarging cannot add detail. Scaling a 200px image to 2000px produces a soft, blurry result — this is a mathematical limit, not a tool limitation.
- Unlocking aspect ratio distorts the image; faces and text look visibly wrong.
- Repeated resize cycles accumulate softness. Always resize from your original, not from a previous output.
- Extremely large source images may exhaust memory on mobile browsers.
How to resize image
- 1
Load your image — it stays on your device throughout.
- 2
Enter the target width or height; the other dimension follows automatically while aspect ratio is locked.
- 3
Unlock the ratio only if you deliberately want to stretch the image, which will distort it.
- 4
Download the resized image.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a small image bigger without losing quality?+
No — and be sceptical of any tool that claims otherwise. Detail absent from the original cannot be recovered; upscaling interpolates between existing pixels, which produces a larger but softer image. Start from the highest-resolution original you have.
Why does my image look stretched?+
The aspect-ratio lock was probably disabled, letting width and height change independently. Re-enable it and set only one dimension — the other is calculated to preserve proportions.
Does resizing happen on your servers?+
No. Resizing runs in your browser via Canvas. The image never leaves your device, which matters when you're resizing an ID photo or anything else you'd rather not upload.
