About Rotate PDF

Pages scanned sideways or upside down are usually a feeder-orientation mistake, and the fix is genuinely lossless: PDF stores rotation as a page attribute, so correcting it changes a number rather than re-rendering pixels. Nothing is re-compressed and no quality is lost, no matter how many times you rotate. You can rotate every page or only the ones that are wrong.

When to use Rotate PDF

Fixing a sideways scan

Landscape pages fed through a portrait scanner arrive rotated 90°, forcing every reader to tilt their head or their screen.

Correcting a few pages in a long document

Mixed-orientation scans where most pages are fine and a handful were fed the wrong way.

Preparing a document for print

Printers honour the page rotation attribute, so fixing it beforehand avoids a tray of sideways paper.

Limitations worth knowing

  • Rotation is limited to 90° increments, because that is what the PDF specification stores. Correcting a slightly skewed scan needs deskewing, which is a different operation.
  • Rotation applies to whole pages; you cannot rotate an element within a page.
  • A few older or non-compliant viewers ignore the rotation attribute and display the original orientation.
  • Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first.

How to rotate pdf

    Download the corrected file.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating reduce quality?+

No, not at all. Rotation sets a page attribute that viewers apply at display time — the page content is untouched and nothing is re-encoded. You can rotate repeatedly with no cumulative degradation, unlike rotating a JPEG.

Can I rotate only some pages?+

Yes, and that's the common case with mixed scans. Select the specific pages that are wrong rather than rotating the whole document, which would only make the correct pages wrong instead.

My scan is tilted by a few degrees. Can this fix it?+

No. PDF rotation only supports 90° steps, so it cannot correct a slight tilt from a page sitting crooked in a scanner. That requires deskewing, which re-renders the page content — a genuinely different and lossy operation.
